Tiarra Abu-Bakr is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and the Clinical Director at Building Bridges Foundation, where she leads the development and delivery of holistic, trauma-informed mental health services. With over 15 years of experience in victim advocacy and behavioral health, Tiarra has dedicated her career to uplifting survivors and empowering individuals on their healing journeys.
Her professional background includes pivotal roles with organizations such as DC SAFE, the Metropolitan Police Department’s Victim Services Branch, and Bright Beginnings Inc.—where she provided critical support to returning citizens and families facing homelessness. These experiences have shaped her commitment to addressing the intersectionality of trauma, systemic inequity, and mental health.
At Building Bridges Foundation, Tiarra oversees a range of clinical programs, ensuring that services are survivor-centered, culturally competent, and grounded in dignity and respect. She provides individual, group, and family therapy with an emphasis on honoring each client’s lived experience, personal agency, and capacity for growth. Her therapeutic approach centers on the belief that every individual is the expert in their own healing process.
